Hello all. New to the hobby and picked up one of these old school Cobras. Did a peak and tune and wired it into the old truck along with a 102' whip. What a unit. Got down in NE Alabama barefoot from Coastal VA and sounding great.

Any backstory, history on these units and what relation do they have with the 29LTD?

Here is a short read, I make no accuracy claims as I did not write the article.

About The Gold 29 XLR.

Although these radios look very similar to the LTD series I believe they used a different circuit board.
On the outside it might look like a newer Cobra 29 LTD/GTL but inside I think they will look different.
Somebody who has owned both models will have to let us know.

Welcome to the forum by the way!
