I was wondering if these could easily be completely disabled in the radios without causing any other problems to the radios ? And if so , how ? I've noticed with a few of the different type echo boards they can cause problems for me. What a useless pain in the ass these functions are ,anything to make a buck I guess ? Thanks

Just don't push the soundtracker button works best

I would like it completely disabled if possible ? they tend to cause a chrip and feedback in the ptt's coming from the microphones when using echo boards , if you push the sound tracker buttons in (which really doesn't help the radio) it will help the chrip and feedback to a degree , but not completely .
The radios tend to be good decent working TX/RX performing radios , I personally just find the ST's to be rather useless.

I cant find it anywhere either. I searched a few sites.

I hate those nw/st/wx radios. They are garbage.
Uniden is the way to go.

I never has a probem by just leaving the ST button off.
I used LT2DN echo boards. Never had those problems.

here ya go:

this is something i found on the net; not something i have tried.
this is for the 148GTL soundtracker; not sure if it applies to other soundtracker radios.

hope it helps someone:
To have the mic-audio by-pass the SoundTracker circuit, locate the 7-wire connector on the channel selector/ SoundTracker board, connector CON2. The wires are blue, green, yellow, orange, red, brown and black. Cut the yellow and red wires and splice them together. This will alow full modulation upon tune-up

I'am pretty sure it was a part removal on the ST board to disable.

I have a Cobra 18 WX ST ll with the Sound Tracker button. It sounds good when you are listing to another stock radio but when you hear radio's with a lot of swing on the meter they sound gargled. My Uniden 78 XL filters are a lot better.
