Cobra148 gtl rx/tx led issue

which 148 it it. the front mic or the side mic. sounds like you have lost the 8 volts to the front end. need to know which one it is. does the meter light come on. does the radio pop when you at least turn it on?

1st thing to do is check item 1 for vco voltage and see if you have it and this will verify if the PLL is locking in as it should. so just check the voltage as listed in the service manual. here is a cobra service manual if you do not have one. the last page shows the test locations and the can number to adjust it.

here is the one from cbtricks which has more info on it. you will need to check the ic on the side of the case for voltages also to make sure you are getting 8 volts to the pll cirquit.

I did not ask you but assume it does the same thing in ssB mode. never saw one do as yours in AM only before.I would lean towards the audio IC or the 8 volt regulator. the audio IC is about 10 legs and the 8 volt reg is 3 legs. both mounted to the side of the case.since it is as old as it is you could even have a cap shorted .

you are not locked at the PLL with that voltage more than likely. did you check the voltages at the audio IC and the 8 volt regulator? the service manual I left you from cbtricks should have the voltages as what they should be. if they are wacky you might try pulling some legs of the caps loose and see if you get voltages coming back . a shorted cap at the audio IC will kill voltages.
