Colinear Array

Greetings and thanks for the opportunity to learn here.

I have been looking at making a dipole for 11 meters and while looking through the MFJ catalog last night I ran across the colinear antenna array in the catalog.

Has anyone built and run one on 11 meters? My best option for mounting is horizontal and I want it mainly for dx'ng. Plan to run some power maybe 100-200 watts.

I could buy the materials and construct it or could I purchase the 15 meter colinear and cut it down to 11 meter?

Once again thanks for any input and let me know if you have any questions.

What are you calling a collinear antenna? To my knowledge, MFJ does not make a collinear antenna for 15m. I just looked at the latest MFJ catalog. What were you looking at? A collinear is simply an antenna consisting of several different antennas stacked and phased to operate as one. they are used very often on VHF and UHF but almost NEVER on the HF bands even as high as 11m. A collinear antenna can be several halfwaves long and oriented one above the other like this vertical antenna:

Or like this four bay three element:

Or even like this HUGE HF array made from wire.

Thanks for responding sir, the one I am talking about is constructed from wire, and can be hung between 2 trees horizontally. Am going from memory here now, it is ladder line fed in the center, has 3-1/4 wavelength wires across the top, let me see if I can find a pic some where as I left the MFJ catalog at home.

Ok, i found it there on the www. It is actually a 4 element colinear array, there are 4-1/2 wave wires across the top. There are 2-1/4 wave stubs that drop vertically and it is center fed balanced line with 450 ohm ladder. MFJ product number 6415. I will see about posting a pic for everyone. And once again thanks for the opportunity to run this by anyones experience to see what you think. I am trying to learn as much as I can for a rookie!

Hope this loads up, it is my first try at doing this.

on edit: File must be too big.

Never mind. I found it on page 66 of the catalogue. I was scrolling down and missed it the first time around. NO you cannot cut down the 15m version to use on another band. The lengths and spacings are critical for proper operation.well you could cot it down to size but every wire and every piece of phasing line (the vertical ladder line sections) would need to be trimmed. Alot of work for little return IMO. You could make one easier from wire and ladder line. It would be a LOT cheaper too.

I guess it's not as simple as substituting the 1/2 wave (18') for 11 meter across the top and the 1/4 wave (9') for the stubs even if I wanted to build it from scratch?

on edit: Never mind i read the second half of your post.

I will plan to order the parts and construct from scratch then. I sure would like to set it up before the snow comes.
