Colorado And Shrooms

Did you guys actually read that article?

i didn't, because you have to create an account in order to view it.

however, i do know a bit about the reasoning behind the decriminalization of psylocibin mushrooms, and i wonder what the specific aversion to it might be?

If anyone here has seen the studies done on its effects on soldiers returning from war with PTSD then i would assume that they would be hopeful of its inherent benefits instead of fearful of its stigma.

here is just one example. Ask yourself if this man is a drug addict, or crazy, or if you might need to open up your mind a bit:

How many times in the past has some broad stroke of authority been proven to be misdirected at best, and harmful at worst?
why would the "all drugs are bad and have no redeeming value" mentality that was foisted upon a certain generation be any different?

It seems to me that some people are just looking for an echo chamber in which to pass around the same old view points with guaranteed validation.

I say be braver than that. Step outside your comfort zone with an actually open mind instead of hiding in old comfortable memories of a world that never actually existed.

Being a product of The 60's/70's what people do with the Gifts Nature Gives us I have No Problem with if used properly . Those days passed for me Many , Many years ago ! But I totally agree w/ LC ! Why Manufactured Chemicals when Mother Nature provides more than DX ?:D;) Our predecessors used natural things to help heal them ? All though the case is still out on that " Leech " thing !:ROFLMAO:

I could also read the article. I did also see a report about the "possible" medicinal values of mushrooms a year ago. I can agree that there is medicinal uses and homeopathic benefits from natural remedies. But unfortunately those legislators trying to decriminalize, not just drugs but crimes, are only trying to win the hearts and drug crazed minds of voters. Just dangle that carrot out there, just read up on the Opium Wars....you will see a disturbing parody. Think it was Blackcat630 that had posted a very long video concerning this matter...something about Seattle, Washington. They are decriminalizing and turning Seattle into a Cesspool. This is much deeper than using mother nature for medical use.

This was taken out of a post from another thread.....but I feel it explains the decriminalization factor being promoted.

"The pro-crime movement disempowers police so that ordinary people turn to criminal organizations for protection, replicating the existing model in many of the countries the migrants are coming from. As political radicals destroy civic institutions in their battle for power, gang leaders emerge as rivals to elected officials. That’s already the case in Chicago. It will become the norm in cities across the country."

"Most of the vices controlled by organized crime, from gambling to drugs to prostitution to illegal migration, have already been legalized or are on the way to being legalized. This will not, contrary to some optimistic libertarian predictions, result in the destruction of organized crime. Instead, organized crime will thrive in the social chaos of the broken families, shattered communities and lost values."

"The Prohibition analogy was wrong. Legalizing crimes doesn’t get rid of organized crime. Men with guns and no morals can always find ways to make money. Especially in a society losing its own morals."

"Policies don’t stop crime. Social cohesion does. As a society breaks down, it tries to fight the most obvious symptoms of social breakdown with violence, before embracing the breakdown until there is no longer a distinction between law and criminality, between cops and gangs, and politicians and bosses."

Redbeard, i certainly mean no disrespect to you, but what you just posted was absolute unsubstantiated crap.

whoever said that is just plain wrong.

Im certainly no authority, but i do happen to live in a city dominated by gambling and adult entertainment, and i have worked in the casino industry for over 20 years.

The mob is non existent in the casino industry, and no legitimate casino would ever do business with them specifically because of the delicate balance required to keep these businesses legal.

Everyone in the business knows how closely they are monitored, and that one slip up could mean the end for their business or a law change that affects them negatively.

it is actually the complete opposite. EVERYTHING is done above board and there are no more 'backroom deals' with distributors or vendors etc.

That's not even to mention the legal prostitution. the mob does exist here when it comes to that, but that's because it's still ILLEGAL here in my county.

you can take a one hour drive out of town and be in a different county where it is legal and find that they are VERY careful about staying away from anything that could lessen their profits of put them out of business.

bringing these things out in the open absolutely puts the illegal traders on the sidelines where they are eventually priced right out of the game.

the reality of prohibition was that the rich folks talked a bunch of crap about what other people should and shouldn't be doing and then had someone else go buy illegal booze for them and their friends.

there is the way we want things to be, and there is the way things are.
we should all be very careful not to confuse the two.

It is proven that when decriminalized decisions are made, citing the legalization of schedule 3 narcotics, it brings along with it some moral decay. Sherriff and Police are hindered in ability to enforce laws. Lack of enforcement results in escalation of other crimes associated with those persons needing a fix. Colorado has definitely seen an up turn in DUI cases due to legalized narcotics, now they will be dealing with more people tripp'n on shrooms.

Also proven is the demoralization factor of society compounded by decriminalizing. Look at Seattle. I agree with the medicinal proprieties that can be associated with natural herbs. I agree that marijuana does not pose as much threat as alcohol. Alcohol is deemed legal due to revenue. Many cities are seeing potential in acquiring more revenue through legalizing schedule 3 narcotics only to see the aforementioned crime escalate. It's tricky, not enough research has proven beneficial in decriminalizing shrooms.

Have you ever tried to function normally after ingesting magic mushrooms ? I tried, many times, oh the stories of damned near death.......and I am lucky to be alive. Some of those I associated with are not around due to the "recreational drug use". A few are crippled, some are relative zombies now. I now realize the results of what could have happened, not just to me, but others around me. I definitely was not in a right frame of mind. So I am stating facts of which I know to be true.

Respectfully,

Redbeard

P.S. ~ I am still waiting on those Flashbacks :ROFLMAO:
Blessed are those who have not seen but yet believe......But where does that leave men like me who have seen too much? Am I condemned?

fighting for freedom doesn't mean freedom according to your personal viewpoint.

fighting for freedom means allowing others to make a decision that you might not agree with.

sure, i could post up some opposing viewpoints, and show you articles refuting your statements, but we both know that in this day and age, both sides of a disagreement can bring an equal amount of 'evidence' to their aid.

I just don't think it would serve any purpose. I can see that you feel strongly about these things, and i certainly don't think that anything i have to add will change your perspective.

I grew up seeing the results of the decisions made by the generations before me, and i firmly believe that they are not doing a very good job of stewarding our country.

We need new ideas, and open minds in order to make things better. sure, there will be bumps along the road, but continuing with the way things have been done is a sure path to obsolescence.

trying to preach morality to people who have studied their history is like trying to tell a cartoonist that bugs bunny is real.

There has NEVER been a time on this earth that was any more or less moral than any other time in history. the only difference is how well the bad stories get hidden away.

when people think that guns are going to be made illegal, how do they act?
when people believe that guns are going to be legal for the foreseeable future, how do they act?

making and keeping things that scare us illegal is not the answer.
creating people who care about everyone regardless of their differences is the answer.

I didn't say using the drugs in a medicinal manner was immoral. Only that when politicians use decriminalizing as leverage creates more problems. If they can use the drug in legitimate medical situations it's a win. Studies need to be made and show proof. By just decriminalizing a situation is identical to sticking your head in the sand, or should I say just get high and all the problems go away.

Spent many wasted years of my youth with that idea, but the problems never went away, only got worse. Drug use is not a disease, it's a choice. Seems Denver wants a bunch of stoned out of their minds to just loose themselves. That is not very wise.

THE GREAT SMOKE OFF
(Shel Silverstein)
Shel Silverstein - 1972

Now in the laid back California,
town of sunny San Rafael.
Lived a girl named Pearly Sweetcake,
you probably knew her well.
She was stoned fifteen,
of her eighteen years.
And her story was widely told,
That she could smoke em faster,
than anyone could roll.

Well her legend finally reached New York,
that grove street walk up flat.
Where dwelt the Calistoga Kid,
a beatnik from the past.
He'd been rolling dope since time began,
Now took a cultured poke ,
and said Jim I can roll em faster,
than any chick can smoke.

So a note gets sent to San Rafael,
for the championship of the world.
The kid demands a smoke off,
Well bring him on says Pearl.
I'll grind his fingers of his hands,
He'll roll until he drops.
Says Calistoga I'll smoke that chick,
till blows up and pops.

So they rent out Yankee Stadium,
and the word is quickly spread.
Come one come all who walk or crawl,
Tickets just two lids a head.
And from every town and hamlet,
Over land and sea they speed.
The worlds greatest dopers,
with the worlds greatest weed.

Hasishes from Marocco, hemp smokers from Peru,
And the Schasnicks from Bagon,
Who smoke the deadly pugaru.
And those who call it light of life,
And those that call it boo.

See the dealers and their ladies,
Wearing turquoise lace and leather.
See the narcos and the closet smokers,
puffin all together.
From the teenies who smoke legal,
to the ones who've done some time.
To the old man who smoked reefer,
back before it was a crime.

And the grand old house that Ruff built,
is filled with the smokes and cries,
of fifty screaming heads,
all stoned out of their minds.
And they play the national anthem,
and the crowd lets out a roar,
as the spotlight hits the Kid and pearl,
ready for their smoking war.

At a table piled high with grass,
as high as a mountain peak.
just top and buds of the rarest flowers,
not one stem branch or seed.
I mean a mowie a wowie a Panama red,
Acapulco gold, keef from east Afghanistan,
and that rare Alaska cold.
and there's sticks from Thailand, games from the island.
and Bangkok's blooming best and some of that wet imported shit
that capsized of Key west.
There's wahokin pops and Kenya burn, and Reverie flours
and that rare Manhattan silver ,
that grows down the New York sewers.

And there's bubbling ice cold lemonade,
and sweet grapes by the bunches.
and there's Hershey bars and Orios,
in case anybody gets the munches.
And the calastoga kid he smiles,
and Pearly she just grins.
And the drums roll low ,and the
crowd yells go go go
and the worlds first smoke off begins.

Well the kid he flicks his fingers once,
sot that first joint's rolled.
Pearl takes one poke with her famous lungs,
and whoosh that roach is cold.
Then the kid he rolls his super bomb,
that would paralyze a moose.
and Pearl takes one mighty hip, that bombs defused.
And then he rolls three in just ten seconds,
and she smokes them up in nine.
And everybody sits back and says hey
this just might take some time.

See the blur of fling fingers,
see the red coal burning bright.
As the night turns into morning,
and the morning fades to night.
And the autumn turns to summer
and a whole damn year is gone
and the two still sit on that roach filled stage
smoking and Rollin.
with trembling hands he rolls his jays,
with fingers blue and stiff.
she coughs, and stares with blood shot gaze
and puffs through blistered lips.

And as she reaches out her hand
for another stick of gold
The Kid he gasps, "Goddamn it, bitch,
there's nothing' left to roll"
"Nothin' left to roll?" screams Pearl,
"Is this some twisted joke?"
"I didn't come here to fuck around, man,
"I come here to SMOKE!"
And she reaches 'cross the table
and she grabs his bony sleeves
And she crumbles his body between her hands
like dried and brittle leaves
Flicking' out his teeth and bones
like useless stems and seeds
Then she rolls him in a Zig Zag
and lights him like a roach
And the fastest man with the fastest hands
goes up in a puff of smoke.

In the laid-back California town
of sunny San Rafael
Lives a girl named Pearley Sweetcake,
you probably know her well
She's been stoned twenty-one
of her twenty-four years,
and the story's widely told
How she still can smoke them faster
than anyone can roll
While off in New York City,
on a street that has no name
There's the hands of The Calistoga Kid
in the Viper Hall of Fame
And underneath his fingers
there's a little golden scroll
That says:

"Beware of Bein' the Roller
When There's Nothin' Left to Roll."

sure, i could post up some opposing viewpoints, and show you articles refuting your statements, but we both know that in this day and age, both sides of a disagreement can bring an equal amount of 'evidence' to their aid.

LC, I'm sure this will agree with you.....seems Philly wants to be the litmus test. This should get interesting for Philadelphia.
