Not much info, seems rarer than the ssb model. I bet it cleans up nicely. Anyone know anything about this radio?

Here's what I know: The model number is 800. It's the base station equivalent of the Colt 290 mobile. You can find it in Sam's CB #166, which I don't have. It has a PLL02A chip.

Don't know if any of that is new info, but you're right that these aren't as commonly seen as the SSB version. To the point that there's just not a lot of info to be had.

I've got the SSB Black Shadow base station and the black, chrome, and polished aluminum do look nice when cleaned up. Good luck with your efforts!

Thanks, and I didn't know all that, just that it was not as well documented. A guy gave it to me, said it was "blowed up". Found a faulty cap, decided to replace all of them. Works great now. I might give it back to the guy as he seems to have some sentimental attachment to it but gave it up when another tech told him to cut the cord. Still, Colt black shadow is a pretty cool name. Do you have any idea When these were made? No date print on the plate. Pretty low serial number too, judging by all the leading zeros.

The Sam's book for that radio came out in February 1978, so figure a few months for reverse engineering and writing up the alignment procedure, which places it in spring or summer of 1977. Couldn't be much before that, because then it would have been a 23 channel radio.
