Comet CMX-200 Power SWR Meter

Just noticed the specifications on that eBay link. They show a nice insertion loss figure:

"Less than 0.1dB or lower". That's mighty low!

Comet antennas themselves have a so-so reputation, and I'd think you'd be able to find something just as good for a lower price (or lower).

I made the guy an offer, which he accepted. I should have it in a few days. I really don't need it, but just felt compelled to own one, lol.

I find it odd, that their is little info about them. I couldn't even find one eham review. Maybe he jumped on my offer because he had a shelf full of unsold meters. I don't like how it says "multimedia monitor" on it.

Oh well, I'll report my findings when I use it for awhile.

Looks pretty cool lit up. :) I'm looking for one that does HF/VHF/UHF so that I can run two rigs into it (10 meter and dual band 2m/70cm). Comet makes a dual meter one, but it got very poor reviews. Everything else looks too darned big to stick in my mobile.

Let us know how you like this one. :thumbup1:

Comet and Diamond antennas are both made by NCG. I have been using my Comet CA-2X4SR for about a dozen years or so and it still works great. NCG did make some Diamond Super Gainer antennas that had a problem with the fold-over spring and water egress into the base but that was solved a decade ago or thereabouts. I had one of the 7/8 wavelength SG-2000's and at highway speeds the bloody thing would actually lift UP and out of the base and flop over. I fixed that with heatshrink over the base. I actually owned the CA2X4SR for a couple years before I realized it also had a fold-over base. The fold-over spring was MUCH better. As for actual performance....they both worked quite well considering the poor mounting locations they had. The SG-2000 was just behind the cab on the box rail of a Ranger pickup and the CA2X4SR was on the rear corner of the hatch door on a Ford Escape. So far no antennas on the Tundra. :crying:

This particular meter is rubbish. Both needles are not zeroed. It doesn't even come close to reading my radios known output. The colored display makes discerning meter position very difficult.

I may have received a big turd, dunno, I am returning it for a full refund.

Bummer!

Well...

I let the guy talk me into swapping out for a new replacement. The new meter came today. So far, it seems to work fine and be as accurate as my Daiwa.

I like the small size and the weight of the unit, but that multi colored display really messes with me. It's pleasing to look at, but it takes some getting used to. I am colorblind, so maybe all the different colors are hard for my brain to compute.

I'm going to keep it and use for bench work. My trusty Daiwa will handle the daily use.

The first meter must have suffered some sort of damage or QC.

Does the meter really look like this in the dark ? Double rainbow!

I don't think I could see that needle in the dark. And yeah, if you're color blind, that really oughta be a trip! Reminds me of my Dad buying a Cutlass Supreme for my Mom... told her it was white with a blue top and interior. We got the car, and it was white and green. Green interior, green top. At least he got the white part right!

I got it sitting on my test bench in the shop. Just use it occasionally. If I get a chance to sell it, I certainly will. Our local hamfest is in January, some CB nut will think it's cool.
