:unsure:Having observed the recent ARRL DX Contest as a new ham, and making numerous contacts, the thought occurred to me: Do both stations need to submit log reports for the contacts to be counted? How do contacts get verified if not? Do I invalidate the QSO's for the contesting operators if I do not submit my log?

How do contacts get verified if not? honor system (with a few "checklogs" )
Do I invalidate the QSO's for the contesting operators if I do not submit my log? no

i just turn my rig off when the 'testers start running amok:angry: ymmv

Both sides have to subit log. If you don't send your log QSO for station worked with you is not valid.
So if you are not going to send your log, don't bother to call.
I had great fun working USA on 80 and 40m this weekend.

You do not have to sumit your logs for the other guys contact to count. As long as you made a contact per contest rules. They are not going to cross reference every log entrie.

Hmmm.

So far that's two repliers saying both operators do not have to submit logs for the QSO to count for the submitting op, and one replier saying both need to submit logs for the QSO to count.

Not a fan of contesting....ARRL had a SSB contest last weekend and the contesters that were on 80 and 40 meters would park 1 khz from where nets were being done and started calling cq contest....needless to say there was alot of unhappy folks on the bands...and the contesters were very rude when told they were interfering with active nets....

But from what I understand both sides have to submit logs for the contact to be counted

Yeah. Last weekend was my first exposure to the contesting environment. Not impressed. Tons of QRM all over the bands, with big guns hogging miles of bandwidth and the rest just cheek by jowl next to each other.

I don't get it, but to each his own, I guess.

It was my first stateside contesting exposure as well....all of 15 17 20 40 and 80 meters was totally covered with 'testers....it beat all I have ever seen, you could not move 1 kh without hearing 2 to 4 stations ...it was crazier than CB with DX at 9 db
