I once saw an ad on Craigslist where some guy was selling 10 mobiles and 6 base stations for parts, for $20. Most of the mobiles were old Midlands. All of the bases were 23 channels. Half of the mobiles were 40 channels. A couple of the radios were SSB. Drove an hour and a half round trip to get them. I figured for parts radios, I did ok.

Turns out all but 1 of the base rigs and one of the mobiles, actually still worked! I ended up selling all but 1 or 2 of them on eBay and made a profit of at least 10 times what I paid for the lot.

The deals can be had if you know where and when to look. BTW if you can't see the radio work, treat it as if it doesn't work and pay accordingly.
