So i decided to properly strap my antron 99 to the chimney.I bought a radio shack strapping kit and some u bolts and a 12 foot mast.First the bottom strap i couldnt tighten much at all the top is pretty tight as i could get it the ubolt snapped on the antenna had to buy another.Cut my hands all up.Only got the antenna about 5 feet up the 12 foot mast. Then when all was ready to go someone stepped on my coax bending the connector.I tried bending it but it it threaded and got stuck halfwway on my radio and i had to use a pliers to get it off.Thought i snapped the damn connector on the radio but i didnt.I then tried connecting it to my swr meter it went on half way.Tested swr above 3.0 im sure it was because the connector wasnt screwed on properly. Now i gotta replace it and im leaving for carolina in a week. This sucks really bad :( i hope i didnt snap the connectors in my radio i opened it it looks still soldered. Now im getting a lightning storm and i didnt ground my antenna ughh what a shit day.

Reads like one of my days

With regard to the VSWR, your mast is probably what is causing the problem if 7 feet of it is parallel with your antenna element, get it up to the top and you may well find the VSWR drop (y)

Buy a pint of Jim Beam and keep drinking till what you are doing becomes clear.

fat chance it was hard enough getting it up 5 feet damn roof is narrown and i cant mount it then raise it because i cant balance it.Damn thing almost takes me off the roof.

So how much pole can i have running next to the antron.Righ now its on a 12 foot mast about 5 to 6 feet up it.Would the bent screw bracket on the coax pl259 cause the swr to skyrocket? When i wiggled the wire my radio got static and then lost it.The connector threading is all screwed up it doesnt thread properly.I dont see how 4 feet of pole running up the side is gonna cause swr issues i see it all the time on towers etc.

Got off the phone with a guy from hro and he told me the 12 foot mast is the problem and said it isnt needed. He said just mount it to the straps ubolts 30 feet up is enough for the 10 and 11 meter band with the a99.Im just gonna use the mast for my nephew when he moves to put up his antenna. He starting in radio so i will put it to good use.
