Crazy Bee Keeper

The only thing I say that looked a little crazy was his selection of umbrellas. :D Actually honey bees get a bad rap from most people. For the most part they are pretty docile and really need to be stirred up to get pissed off. As a kid I remember running down the hill behind the house and taking a shortcut through the old garden spot that was grown up in golden rod. Halfway through I stopped to listen to a strange sound. I then realized that I was waist deep in the middle of THOUSANDS of honey bees. Everywhere i looked they were there. I slowly moved the plants out of the way as I walked out of the garden spot. Many bees simply crawled onto my hands and arms and either just fell off or simply flew away.

One time a HUGE swarm collected on a telephone pole on the corner of a busy intersection here in town. Someone called the old fellow out the road here that was a bee keeper. He came down with his can of smoke and the town utility crew raised him up in a bucket truck to the top of the pole. A few minutes he had a swarm all over his arm and he had gotten the queen. The bucket truck operator was freaking on the ride back down to the ground but neither was ever stung. Once on the ground the queen was placed in a hive and the other bees quickly followed.

Honey bees are cool but don't even give a sideways look at hornets or wasps.
