So, I got me a new CRE 8900. I like the radio and overall features. The local SSB geezers that I talk to, say it has best audio that they've ever heard out of my shack. I guess my TS-590, TS-870 and FT-ONE sound like crap.
I got my trusty straight key out, plugged it in the back and started calling CQ and was met this.
In the video below, my character speed is 18 WPM sending around 15 WPM. The break-in settings are whack. The carrier is delayed along with the sidetone. Sounds like I'm 14 again, studying for my novice. I am sending the word "test". If I key any faster, the sidetone is just one long beep.

In comparison, this is my TS-590's sidetone:

I talked to Univercom and they are going to discuss the issue with the factory and fix me up. They are on Christmas break until after the New Years. The radio allows you to change sidetone volume and frequency only. My nephew is borrowing my external keyer (he's in Texas) so I can't try my paddles.
Anybody else have a key they can plug in and check for this issue?
