I just bought a cheap midland 1001z cb and a cobra A1000 antenna. I am pretty sure i hooked everything up right but when i turn the thing on it just says "d" on the channel screen. I did a temporary hookup by wiring the cb to a car plugin that was cut from a car phone charger. Any ideas why this is happening and how to fix it, im hoping i didnt mess it up... :( .Thanks.

Watch those car phone chargers..... I've seen alot of radios come into the shop where guys have used something similar to hook their radios up to a cigarette lighter jack. After they try pluggin it in the radio won't work.
Usually when this happens its because they are not using a plain old cigarette lighter adaptor.... they are using one from a cell phone that steps down the voltage from 12 volts to 6 volts so you can power the cell phone on 6 volts.

So alot of these cigartte lighter plugs that come on cell phones will not work... they will only let 6 volts into the radio. It might be just enough power for some stuff to work like lights... but its not enough for the radio work work properly.

Check out that plug you put on... check if it says 6 volts on it somwhere.... usually these type will have a square end and a light.
Or just check the output voltage with a meter or 12 volt circuit tester light.
This might not be whats happening to your radio, but i figure I would just let you know about some of these cell phone plugs and to check on that before you start tracing the problem.
I've seen it happen a few times in the past year and it could give you the strange problems your seeing.

It may not be the problem with your radio..... but its something to check and keep in mind.

Take care and good luck
