Davemade 1x4 mobile amp?

gotta make the money while they still have toshiba transistors in stock, or stocking up on cash before retiring maybe.

I was thinking on toshiba transistors the other day. what else were the 2879s used in? are there old devices completely unrelated to the radio communication hobby we could be rescuing these obsolete transistors out of?

Since they were RF transistors the only place they were/are used is in the radio communications field. Many older amateur HF radios (Kenwood) used them in pairs to make 100 watts output however as far as I know not in the last couple decades as there are better devices out there. Most today are switching to FET's which contrary to popular CB belief work GREAT. That is as long as the PROPER device is used.

There are still DEI 2879s and they work good, just don't volt them. For $675 I would much rather have a Ruger SR1911 45 ACP pistol and that is something that will last a lifetime.

LOL, look what they want for a DEI 16pill. Then look what they want for a Toshiba 16pill. If you look at the DEI, they don't tell you what kinda watts you'll get. But the Toshiba they do.

Time to take it to some proper RF Mosfets!! With the price going up like it is, I will hold on to the 2 remaining amps I have with Toshiba 2879's!!

My Yaesu FT-1000MP HF rig has (2) Toshiba 2sc2879's in the PA section. Decent swing on AM with a 10 watt DK swinging to 40-50 watts... clean. I've snagged a few boxes with Toshiba 2879's just for the parts if needed.

A new Connex came thru with a DEI 2290 final and is was un-impressive out of the box. I wouldn't have bought it if I'd have known. Buyer be aware, those numbers they print on top of the DEI pills are down right false. They are not drop in replacements for the old Toshiba's and do not carry the same specs. That being said, some will choose the cheaper DEI transistors anyway just for the price point.

I understand that the Chinese pills and MOSFETs will eventually completely replace the Toshiba's 50 years from now, but original Toshiba transistors are still out there, they just cost more for a reason other than availability :sneaky:

Nothing can make a buyer any more confident about their amp purchase than knowing the transistors have been discontinued.
I have a few amps lying around and my Davemade 200 swings to 200 watts average from a 100 watt key (using a one pill driver) while my Xforce 200HD with DEI transistors swings 190. Nothing to see here folks. I have been using the XForce on the base for a few months and it seems just fine. I can live with 10 watts less output. Unfortunately the Xforce website boasts highly exaggerated output ratings though.
