Hello all, Where should i fun the rf power on this radio to key this amp. Now i only use this rig for ssb. Very seldom on am.

Thanks
Bob

That should be a great talking combo, I would dead key something like 1.5 - 2 watts on AM. Take care.

I see, I suppose he could baby it with only 10-12 watts and it would run cool. The SSB input wattage is not as critical as AM dead key. I would think he would be fine on up to 25 watts PEP on SSB.

Try this Undertaker, with the amp on high and the radio on SSB with the RF power turned all the way down key the mic and give it a steady AUUUUUUDIO with your voice. Then slowly turn up the RF power on the radio. The peak power from the amp should rise. Once it hits the point where you gain little or nothing stop. From this point you could back it down just a touch and you should be good to go. You will also now know that anything above that setting will just make more heat and probably overdrive the amp.

I will have to try this tonight and see what mine shows, I am curious myslef now.

since it's a pair of 2290's i'd use a power meter and set the radio to keep the amps PEP at 140 max and a 35 watt deadkey on AM .

that's the 1st right answer i've seen in a while!! everybody concerns themselves with the output of the radio. you need to adjust it to get the REAL rated output of the amp.
