Ok I need HELP ! I am looking for a full set of 100uf500v caps for this item... I would rather not have to modify to fit other caps in this. The caps have 4 feet to attach to the board and one center + , One leg of the 4 is the ground... Only one cap let loose but rather play safe and replace all of them... Or if some one has a parts unit and has a good complete board I probally go for that also

Thank you

Harbach has a replacement hv board for this amp. Works well I have one in the shack with this upgrade. Easy to install.

Harbach Electronics - Soft Keys

Link says soft keys but it takes you to the clipperton L upgrade HV board

I second the Harbach board. i have one in my Clipp. I used larger caps i got from K4POZ, you can find his add on QTH dot com clasifieds. Never hurts to have more capacity.

I have used many of the caps that K4POZ sells to build/repair power supplies. Never had any issues with any of the caps.

The resistors can be had on ebay for a lot less $$ than what he charges, of course shipped from China so it will take a while longer to receive them. The caps are a good price.

This board looks interesting... The only thing that spooks me is the low voltage of 450v and not 500v as to what is in there now... I was always told that bigger is ok but not the other way around correct me if I am wrong on this one..

I think there is 8 caps in the harbach board for a total of 3600 vdc, If I am not mistaken the ClipL has 2700vdc no load, so 6 caps at 500 will give you 3000.

harbach board has more headroom for the HV capabilities,

if they are 180mf at 450vdc you will have 22.5 mf of filtering. Plenty of filtering.

If you use the caps on QTH 330mf at 450vdc you will have 41.25 mf filtering, that will stiffen up the PS and less voltage drop under load, the ClipL uses a voltage doubler circuit and switches taps from the transformer for the tune/ssb voltages.

The harbach board is an easy install and looks great inside the amp.

That board also provides bigger Diodes plus new meter shunts and protection. Jeff(W8CQ) has sold a bunch of those!
Never heard anyone say they were disappointed in that set-up after completion.:thumbup1:

Thank you all for the input on this situation... I will be looking at the Harbach board and rebuilding the HV unit...
This was all on my own STUPIDITY:cursing: Due to the fact I moved my equipment to a more permanate location in my garage(shack) That when hooking up the coax to the meter I illadverntantly put the coax on the wrong output (Horizontal and not Vertical) position and keyed into dead space The amp locked up in the keyed position even after letting go of mic, heard a POP and had to shut it off manually.. Tore apart and found the burned cap..

I guess this would put me in the running of the DU MASS of the year award:headbang

From what you described it might have went into oscillation, those four 572B's like to have a load when keyed. Sometimes they run away with itself if not keyed into a load.

they are inherently unstable on 10 and 15 meters if tuned incorrectly.

Inspect your parasitic chokes, also your bias zener, Hopefully it did not take out any of the meters or metering circuits.

Whiskey: You may feel your All Alone in this attack.....LOL
Don't you believe it....anyone in this hobby for a moment or in my case 30+ years....been there done that OM
Get the board and built her up....Soon you'll be saying.....

And that is Xactly what I did... Got the Harbach board, really a NICE part, Comes as a Jigsaw puzzle and you have to build it.. Been a LONG time since I worked on anything like this and eyes are not what they used to be, Wish I had a solder iron to use instead of a gun..Might have to get one if I continue with this kind of stuff again...

Was real spooky flipping the switch ON for the first time not knowing if you got it built correctly or not

But when the plate voltage went up to where it should be and the green light was on you go WOOOO HOOOO...... And then the initial key up, Load and Tune and nothing goes POOF you know it was done right..

That when you say IT'S ALIVE IT'S ALIVE
