DF2020T -- Possible to track multiple signals?

Hi guys,

I'm new to the site - I'm not sure if this is the right forum to post this question, but I feel like I gotta start somewhere :-)

I work on sets where there are several people (10-15) on radios -- these are moving targets, with set frequencies. I'd like to be able to track where all these people are at any given moment. That'd be another piece of software that'd have to be written, but I just wanted to see if that'd even be possible.

The device is this:

Radio DF DDF2020T - GLOBAL TSCM GROUP, INC.

If anyone can help point me in the right direction, that'd be great!

Thanks!

Tyler

That device you linked to is for finding a single station, but not necessarily for tracking them or providing any useful information about their location other than the direction from you.

What you are asking to do is easily done with APRS enabled radios and software. Keep in mind, though that each user would need to be a licensed amateur radio operator. There are some other commercial options available (google "fleet tracking") which might accomplish what you want without having to worry about the licensing issues.

Thanks for the reply!

I had another thought -- what if these radios are CB? Like the type truckers use? I was thinking of a rally around town, so the team leader would be able to track where all the cars are at a given time. Is this something the radios you mentioned would be able to do?

Similarly, this could be something that taxi cab drivers could use, to be able to find out where the competition is at a given moment, etc.

There are no CB's that can do that. What you're describing requires a radio and a GPS and a way to transmit your position, speed etc. on a periodic basis to other radio stations that are listening, recording, and reporting it to a database that can be polled by an application to do the tracking. All of that exists with APRS enabled ham radio, but not on any free services like CB or FRS. Tracking taxi cabs, delivery vehicles, fleet vehicles are all done on similar, but different technologies. All of the major wireless telco providers also can also provide this capability for companies that want it.
