someone suggested that a particular radio wouldnt be the best pick for me because i live in the suburbs of Richmond Va. i guess because theres so much electronic noise around big cities . are some radios better for using in some areas than others or is it that some radios just arnt really up to snuff in areas with more electronic stuff to radiate noise ? they were praising this particular model till i told them where i was so is wasnt just someone wanting to push something else .

thats a buncha hogwash................ its all in the antenna.

use what ever radio you want. get good coax and a good antenna.

oh ya and who ever it is that told you that dont ask them for any further adivce.

Not necessarily. You can have a textbook-perfect antenna system connected to a radio that has poor alignment, poor circuit design for image rejection, poor noise rejection (or good noise susceptibility), poor internal shielding and a whole host of other problems, and you'll have a poor installation.

There's a LOT of differences between and among radios.

i guess some are more properly set up than others maybe ?
tighter tolerances or better tuning equipment ?

The nb/anl circuits on different radios are not the same.
There is not radio that will totally remove the type of
noise you get from the number of computers that are used
in many stores, but I have had the best results from Cobra 148's and grant xl's.

I haven't found magnums to work as well...although my 2510 does quite well too. I haven't used a straight AM rig in years, so can't comment on them.

I HAD the Icom 2720 dual band ham radio that is a piece of crap near the city because it picks up so much intermod.

When It was away from the city it worked ok until it burned up twice.

Me no likey 2720

some radios are filtered better than others but if you have electrical noise YOU ARE GONNA HAVE ELECTRICAL NOISE.
