I made 2 dipoles. One for 2 meter and one for 70cm. The 2 meter I cut 2 pieces of copper house wire 19 " and screwed them to a piece of pvc and spread them horizontally away from each other. I placed the braid on one wire and the lead on the other.I hung it up horizontally. The 70cm I did the same but cut them 7" and hung it up vertically. They work Great !

Never underestimate the effectivness of the simple dipole.A four element beam is really only about 1 1/2 S-unit better than a dipole.

Quote:
On SSB as far as I know there is no way of telling how good your antenna is????Cant set the swr for that because it doesnt have a DK.Im new to this....(SSB)

The antenna performance is the same no matter what mode you transmit on. Just check it with AM.

I recently made a 75 meter dipole. Here is how it is constructed. I used plexiglass to make the feed point, 6x6, 1/4" thick. Drilled 2 holes, one on each corner to attach the wire to and two more holes in the center for the coax to go through. Why 2 holes? If you snake the coax through one then the other you have strain relief. I then used a 14 guage stranded antenna wire I ordered from a company in Utah (I can't remember the name). I soldered every connection and coated everthing with hot glue to seal out the elements. I tuned the antenna to 3.870 for centerpoint. It is 1.5 or better for 3.820 to 3.920,that is 100 KHz. If I want to use it a little higher up the band the MFJ 969 helps me there.

I also built a rotatable dipole for 17 meters.

Works great also
