Re: Do you want the FCC section to stay?????

Keep it. If you don't like what is being said there, don't go in there... It's called freedom of choice. You can choose to read it or choose not to. You can exercise your First Amendment rights, but you cannot use them to cause others to forfeit their rights. Then again the First Amendment doesn't apply here since this is technically a private place, and you come here by choice...

My vote: FCC forum stays...

My vote was yes, i think that there are things that can be posted in that section that could benefit members of this forum. There are more issues than enforcement that can be posted there.

Re: do you want fcc

Hambone, being from the south I like the Confederate flag but I can understand how it may offend some folks. It is also part of some peoples heritage as I am also partial to the British Union Jack flag (birthplace) and I would guess that you are proud of being of African American decent. I would hope that we could be a little more open minded about signatures. I will discuss this with other admins.

Freedom of speech does not mean that we can flame others or get into a pissing contest with each other or the admins. Please keep it to topic.

Thanks

Re: do you want fcc

Here are some things I found on the subject at hand.

"This trend to associate slavery with the Confederate Battle Flag is a recent one, and one that has been morally blackmailing respectable folks into accepting it. Facing the fear of being labeled a racist for not agreeing, people simply find it easier to "go with the flow", I however, do not.

Many may remember the TV Show "The Dukes of Hazzard" that featured a bright orange 1969 Dodge Charger named the General Lee, with a big 01 on the side and a confederate battle flag on the top. The show ran from 1979 to 1985 without incident over the flag being featured on the top of the car. Why? Because it did not hold the same view as it does today, which suggests that this trend to demonize the flag is a recent phenomenon."

Confederate Flag History

The first official flag adopted by the Confederate Congress was known as the Stars and Bars. It consisted of two broad stripes (or bars) with a broad white stripe between them, with a blue canton in the upper left hand corner having seven white stars in a circle. Even though it was proudly accepted by all the people of the southern nation, it soon proved to be fatally faulty on the field of battle.

At the first Battle of Manassas in July 1861, it was mistaken for the U.S. flag by Confederate forces because of the smoke and haze in the confusion of battle. It was then decided by General Pierre G.T. Beauregard that a flag of different design would have to be made.

A square flag consisting of a blue St. Andrew's Cross, to celebrate their Scottish heritage, emblazoned with thirteen stars on a field of red and bordered by a narrow band of white was proposed and adopted as the unofficial battle flag of the Confederate forces. This magnificent flag was formally accepted with military ceremonies by Generals Beauregard, Joseph E. Johnston and others at Centreville, Virginia in October 1861.

I do understand how some can look at the flag and only associate it with some of the ideals of the Government behind it.
