I think you will find that you don't need an amp.

I use about 25 watts pep on SSB and have talked to many states with a 5/8 wave omni. When conditions are right they are right.

The idea is to use the minimum power necessary to do the job. Most of the HF xcvrs put out about 100watts and very few people use amps.
