Does echo do anything for transmit?

Occassionaly while on am cb(which is rare I usually on SSB)- I have heard echo on am which sounds ok...this is likely subjective as I thought at the time, that is kinda cool sounding but it definitely did not help in understanding the person talking in my opinion.

However I do not believe that it is good on SSB, especially as poster mentioned with clipped limiter. You are more likely to cause distortion.

As far as poster question on restoring clipped limiter...Yes definitley restore the limiter.

There are so many other things you can do to improve your station: spend money on antenna and coax improvements. Learn to use your natural speaking and utilize and adjust the station and microphone properly.

Good Stuff.

Once and a while on Saturday night on the "local channel" it is fun to goof around, but if you you really want to communicate with another operator it is not going to help.
Yes, some echo boxes or mics have a pre-amp to increase audio, but the actual effect of echo is not in itself meant to enhance audio in anyway that will increase the range of your transmitted signal.
It may make the audio sound different, or give it a sound that helps you pick it out of the crowded band, but that is about the limit of it.

I run just enough echo to "enhance" my audio! Some cant tell I run it until I turn it off! Then I hear " what did you do, your not as loud". There is such a thing as moderation.
It's not much diffrent then an amp, if you run it too hard you'll sound like hammered stool!
Sometimes I've wish that people would have to pass a IQ test before buying radios!<gotproof>

Echo is worthless in communication audio and can only help to make a transmission un-readable. Ever hear a police, aircraft or military transmission with echo? Heck no. It's 99% a CB radio thing. Or for the fat chick with a mediocre voice singing at the county fair. I know...I ran sound for a group or two when I was in the Navy band.

If used in the proper way as a audio enhancer, like stacking multi tracks on a music track, have you ever listen to any eastern music it's some what hypnotic in moderation with the rite amount of echo.
