Dont get robbed this Christmas

Where did it say Nichicon? Those look like Wurth caps to me, and I like using Wurth. The one by the power supply? They did have different styles, what makes you think it is fake (legit question, trying to learn something)?

I don't think using non-factory machine screws is a major crime either. At least they are not Chinese metric pot metal trash bolts. I can appreciate all those old flat head machine screws.

As for the tripler coil being all the way out, maybe he had to use a slug from something else and it was a slightly different mix. That isn't really as critical as something like a receiver bandpass filter anyhow. Maybe instead of peaking that for max voltage, he was looking at mixer IMD, idk.

The only thing I see wrong is the price, but we do have a free market here and it may be worth that to somebody.

Run away as fast as you can, Turbo Electronics is a well known ripp off.
He buys pristine vintage radios off of Flea bay, claims HE got ripped off, sends a junk chassis back AND gets a refund from your PayPal.
Then adds $1000 to the price and looks for suckers to sell to.
The yellow towel in the pictures is his calling card.

Go look here, this is another one of his seller profiles on Flea Bay.

Those of you putting laughing emojis on my post, feel free to explain how to identify fake nichicons from a picture. I'd like to know. Even if the few in there were fake, most are not even pretending to be nichicons. I doubt a power supply gives a shit if it is amazon or digikey sourced, not like it is stabilizing a bias or something.

In my defense, I didnt know the guy was a known scammer, just figured he was greedy. Now I know.

If it is because of my comment on the tripler, please use your expertise to educate me. Apparently, i am the only one who cannot see an RF spectrum from a photograph of a backed out slug. Could be several things that lead to such an arrangement, so do tell. I am here to learn.

If you can laugh, you can explain. 357 and RWB, take me to school.

What should I start the bid at?
At what 0.01% of people might pay. If you get no bites, put it on your other ebay account and ask a reasonable price. People here forget that there exists people who had a 2000GTL as their first radio, and to them, it might be worth a fraction of their 280k a year salary. Some people buy clothes to wear them once and then toss them. It is not a crime to attempt to take from that customer pool. That is the beauty of a free market, things are worth what just one person is willing to pay. If it don't sell, then you reduce the price until you find someone in a position to buy at a price you are willing to take. If you have a used car worth 2k and someone is willing to pay you 5k right now, do you tell them to f-off and sell it to someone esle at 2k?, No. Nostalgia shouldn't sell for the price of a used icom. To get what you can often times requires starting high. If someone can't dicker, they can always shop at good will. This is not to defend scammers, just the free market.

I am totally serious. As I read the OP, I was thinking the exact same things as you. I want to know how to spot a fake Nichicon, as I have been using them for over 40 years. But I also know, that the seller is a crook.

The only issue I can see is the price, as far as the filter cap, you have to take up the extra space with a filler because they don't make caps in that value that big anymore. I guess I bodge them too.

Note to self; throw away all the yellow microfibers I have.

Seriously though, that guy is bad news, and that's probably a ripped off radio. Puts it in the file with possession of stolen property.
