Connex radio CX3400HP
RCI-3900HP
MagnumS6

I will soon be purchasing a new radio for my company car. I do mostly AM talking so if the radio doesn't have SSB isn't a deal breaker although I have done some talking on SSB. Although while in the car I will stick to AM. I like the Echo and talk back features of these radios. These three radios seem to be fairly close price wise and in features. From your experience how do they compare in TX and RX? How about in quality Does one have a advantge in the echo feature? Other input?

Thanks in advance.

I really don't care much for echo or talk back. But I own some Magnum radios. Their all-mode (AM, FM, SSB) talk back and echo is a well-done feature in these radios. Most mfr's don't have the all-mode variety.

The Magnum's echo chip is the same model/kind used in high-end karaoke machines; its lack of distortion and faithful frequency response is the best available in any radio.

The Connex and the Magnum have superior sounding AM modulation; the RCI is the weak one here.

The receive in all of them is very closely matched as well.

Personally, I would go with the Magnum. It's no secret around here that I am a fan of Magnum radios, I own three of them. Since I've gotten more involved with Ham radio, I haven't used them at all. But I still think they are tops for what they do.

The Connex would be my second choice...

Thanks for your reply. I am leaning towards the Magnum but just it would be a good idea to ask before I purchase. Thanks again.

WHICH ONE

I would stick with the MAGNUM, audio is great, power is fine, receive is great, I had a MAGNUM 257 for a few years, if and when bands open again would own another, and if you ever decide to go for a ticket the MAGNUM is a great starter radio..very good quality.

i'd go with the rci3900hp,as it has ssb which you may not use primarily but its handy to have,it looks the better of the 3 and probably works the best too if similar european radios by rci are anything to go by.
