Looking for a file I found a website that claims they have it. To get it you download an application that supposedly downloads the file for you. I knew it was trouble but said what the hell and downloaded the file and ran it. As it is installing it is opening and closing windows like crazy, it changed my wallpaper, installed a bunch of new programs, some of which I know are malware. It even opened my default web browser and tried to make changes to my facebook account... After all of this I have to search for the file I want to find and discover they don't have it...

I restart my computer, its like nothing ever happened... I love Deep Freeze. And for the attempts to change my facebook account settings, my default browser does not log into anything automatically, and it doesn't store the login info for anything either...

All said and done, me 1 this malware installing program 0.

I told you it was safe to run that file...

downloaders=no, never, not ever trust a downloader.
I do not care how (formerly) legit the website hosting is, a downloader is for one thing, putting crap on your PC you dont want that is difficult if not next to impossible to get rid of. Why would you need something to download something when your browser can already download, its just http download, a universal protocol, downloaders are just to bundle infectious crap with what you are trying to get.

Its bad enough crap infects your machine just from visiting a website, so why allow something when given a choice. Its all crap, all of it, aint no such thing as a free lunch, unless you stole it, or its open source.......ok few exceptions, some non open source is still clean, and a very few open source "based" programs are infectious, or you can "opt out" until it automatically updates to the newest version, that has no opt out option of infection.

For the last few years they had the mess you would get just from visiting a webpage under control, so they had to trick you into allowing infection. Now a new wave of malware is out, redirect viruses based on a rootkit, changing so fast security software cant keep up. beware

I was looking for a game that I legally purchased a long time ago, the CD it came on is damaged and it is no longer available for purchase/download...

That being said, I've thrown some serious crap at Deep Freeze and it hasn't failed me yet. It is better than any security program out there, but it has its headaches as well. That being said, the things I've seen it shrug off, I wouldn't run a windows computer (or an apple for that matter) without it. The only thing I really have to worry about is a hardware failure.

I tell people all the time after repairs not to download that free $h!+ because usually thats exactly what it is ($h!+) music, porn application / programs itr doesnt matter you have to be careful and setup the best you can to protect yourself.

I just repaired one that the guy claimed it wasnt from free porn sites. I showed him different and proved him wrong his computer was one of the hrdest or worst jobs Ive had yet to date that computer was a MESS!!! :censored::headbang

Like I said, I love Deep Freeze. Any software based issues crop up, malware, settings issues, whatever, all you have to do to fix it is reboot. I deal with enough issues for other people I don't want to come home and deal with more...

Im glad nothing was saved that the program did!!!!!!!

Yes I have seen installer programs like this and if you open the file IN WORDPAD,you can usually find the direct link in the source TO THE ACTUAL DOWNLOAD.. (Which wont include thier garbage along with it (I have done this a couple times -- DOESNT ALWAYS WORK (Sometimes its encoded so it cant be seen in plain text) BUT USUALLY DOES))
