We regret to inform you that Durham Radio Sales & Service Inc. after nearly a 25 years in the industry - closed its doors forever at 3:00 PM on Saturday, April 14th. We would like to thank our dedicated staff, loyal customers and friends for your continued support and for many great years in this hobby. Unfortunately, times have changed and it has become impossible to remain competitive in this industry without making drastic changes to our business model. We have decided that it would be better to close the business rather than change the products we carry and reduce customer service.

Wow...guess thats it

Amazon win again

Amazon had nothing to do with it. Durham was a small player in a small niche market. I have been there.They were just a small store located in a strip mall off the beaten path. Being only 30 miles from the MUCH larger and MUCH better stocked Radioworld in Toronto which was right by the exit off Hwy.400 they simply could not compete with the sales from Radioworld. Durham tried to compete with their prices but were constantly a few dollars more and had low stock often requiring you to wait while they ordered the item in for you.

When I was in Ontario I would drive past Radio World to go to Durham Radio. Good people to deal with. Every time I went into Radio World got a snobbish attitude from the sales staff. Still order from them when I moved west.

What about Radioworld in Toronto? They have a full online store and are MUCH bigger.
Yes, I knew you where going to say that after reading your first post. Gave me time to think of a answer. For all the years I have been on the Internet searching for this or that radio related, RadioWorld never showed up in my the search results. Being out in Western Canada, the Internet was my only means of finding out what's going on in the east.

I'll blame their website administrator for not getting them in the search engines. That can be done purposely or not. I wouldn't think a online store would not want to be found. Looks like I will have to sign up for the email blast and see how that goes.

I suppose. I knew of them a looooong while ago and not really sure how I found them on line. It was likely a search or perhaps a link from another site I was on. When I do a search for Radioworld it appears at the top of my results followed by their Facebook page site.

RadioWorld, first impressions;

Terrible website. Horrid. I have to scroll through 2 pages of garbage before I get to the front window to take a peek in. I tried to sign up for the newsletter and I end up in loop going nowhere. Another fail. Durham's was much better, albeit content is king and it was not enough to keep them alive.

Interesting juxtaposition. Small physical store with much better Internet presence. Big physical store, poor Internet presence. RadioWorld seriously needs a professional to re-evaluate their online presence. Just my opinion.

Well Mike maybe it is a difference in browsers but my experience with Radioworld seems to be vastly different than yours. I just signed up for their newsletter now. I simply scrolled to the bottom of the main (first) page and under INFORMATION the first option was Newsletter sign up. Gave them my name and email address and hit send. Almost immediately an email arrived asking me to confirm by clicking on a link. When I did that it was confirmed and that was it. Running Windows 7 with Firefox Quantum 59.0.3 (64 bit). I never have a problem finding stuff on their site and never on the Durham site either. You are right however in that the loss of any site is never a good thing. BTW doesn't Radioworld have another store in Calgary? I think it is GPS Central which merged with Radioworld IIRC.

Sorry to the OP for hijacking the thread a little bit. I'll shut up now. :ROFLMAO:
