Greetings folks. I have a quick question:
I want to know if I can use a Galaxy DX 94 HP as a driver for a Fatboy straight 6 pill amp?
( 6 2879's) on 14 volts. Radio does about 125 watts and has variable power.

Thanks

Welcome to the Forum!

Yes that radio will work fine to drive the amp. Those amps with no drivers can easily handle 200 watts input or more.

Your radio's variable RF power sets the radio's deadkey for it's own internal amp and not so much final output power.

Set your radio's RF power for 30 watts deadkey on AM. This should still maintain your radio's 125 watt peak power maintaining a 4:1 deadkey/swing ratio which will work best.

If your radio's peak power falls well short of 125 watts with 30 watts of deadkey, then your peak power will have to be adjusted internally. 10 or 20 watts less isn't going make any real difference. Just be sure to divide your peak power by 4 and set your deadkey power to that.

If you need to adjust the radio's power internally, This is easily done with the information you can look up on CB tricks for your model radio.

Good luck and enjoy the Forums!

It should work just fine, you can actually use the radio's variable power to control peak amp output. Remember that amp will also work just fine with say 5 watt dead key and 30 peak watts.

The way those amps are built they won't do a lot with low drive. They might even oscillate. Disabling the radio's internal amp won't be necessary.

The 125 pep input won't hurt it but adjust the radio so the amp will dead key around 200 to 250 watts. The radio might not do 125 with the carrier turned down but that's ok.

I ran an I pill with a 95t for a while before I developed such a dislike for exports. It didn't beat every last watt out of the amp but sounded very good.
