If you channel it out and unlock the clarifer the 148Fs are the cat's meow. I have 2 NOS 148Fs in storage and turn them on every so often....not worth over $300 IMO.
You can always tell a 148F that has been used for a couple of years because the leds in the frequency display start burning out.

great radios i have 4 of them i used to try to buy them every time i saw them on Ebay but would not pay more then $150.00 nos o other wise. $300.00 you can buy a RCI 2950DX. but none the less as stated before add some extra frequencies and un lock the clarifier and your world wide on SSB. they also have some excellent receive and transmit is good and loud with just the stock coffin style cobra mic. also there is a fix for those portions of the led's that go out it was on the web some place i'll try to find it but it stated tht many times there not burnt out completly i had a guy in maryland get mine working again. i know also i have had it where with mine if i did not turn the radio on for a few months some segments of the leds on the counter would not work but left on for a few hours they would re-light.

I will take an old HR2510 , recap it myself and blow that 148 out of the water

The difference though is the 148F is a cb set. Keeping the wattage the same they both will sound smooth and crisp on SSB and be very stable. Tune them both to 18 watts PEP and neither one will blow the other away.

My 148F GTL right out of the box on my 5 element (with 2 slightly bent elements) 90 ft high vs your 2510. I double dare you!

One of my friends had a 148F and I have wanted one ever since.

The ones I find are molested more than Chester,,,,,

$355? I wouldn't spend that much.

But I would be interested in a clean one

Recently aligned a Cobra 148F-GTL for a local. The radio is a 5-pin, well built 148 that uses a really cheesy frequency display. Receive and transmit were excellent; nice radio.

Is there any adjustment on these 'counters'?
I couldn't find one . . .
