I have a lead on one but not sure if its worth getting... Who knows when they were mfg and are they equal to the Jackson radios? Thanks

the jfk is a 120ch am radio with fm board added, dual 1944 finals, dual audio ic's in pushpull, variable power about 1w-15w carrier 50w pep or a little more on a stiff 14v supply, they use the same board as the chaser mc5000 and pegasus which usually came with a pair of 1307 finals, similar to a cobra29 on steroids,
they were around in the early 80's, i think a revised version may still be available.

they were very popular in france, 120 ch AM/FM when modded, equal to a jackson? i doubt it, it lacks ssb for starters, i believe there was many different jfk boards, i think at least one or two revisions were brought about by difficult to source audio ic's (i've seen schematics of them with different audio ic's) and/or final's, i'm guessing manufacturing was between the early 80's to mid/late 90's. i think i recall a jfk asc version, but i may be wrong, wasn't a radio i had much interest in due to no ssb,

president robert is another similar radio, although not as popular as the jfk. wouldn't surprise me if superstar ss121 and superstar ss120 are also similar.

i would buy a jackson or a grant everytime before any non ssb radio, you might not use ssb much, but its handy to have. if its just for your collection it might be worth getting, as i said hugely popular in france, where there was a lot of choice.

i agree with jazz, id much rather have the jackson unless i wanted it for AM,
i have nos spares for my chaser and jfk but i doubt i would use them if they broke, to me they are a £25 rig, the parts are worth more than the radios,

i have no idea whats inside the jfk that imd posted, probably more of the pumpy flacid audio president now churn out.

Thanks all for the info...I will wait until I get a Jackson.

a very wise decision, the Jackson is arguably one of the best 11m SSB radios ever made, sure they ain't huge AM/FM performers, but when your talking to someone on the other side of the world on SSB with perfect tx/rx audio, then AM/FM ain't that much of a big thing,

plenty of 50 dollar sets will give you AM performance if you really need it, the Jackson will open up the world if coupled with a decent antenna system.

I have always thought the Jackos had respectable audio on AM with a decent amplified mic, get a Magnum,Galaxy or similar if you like to watch your meter swing hard to the right.

Remember...this is going into my restored 70 C10 so I am going after a mid
80's radio. I will hook this up to my refurbished Gray 150 toggle switch amp.

The Jackson's audio on AM is pathetic, enough said.

Decent SSB performance and horrible AM performance (the worst I have ever seen).
