ELAD FDM Duo

Went an ordered one today. Thing has 9 receivers. I like that it doesn't require being tied to a PC. Plenty of transmit and
receive audio adjustments. My HLA-150 should integrate nicely. They have an amp/tuner option, but slightly expensive. Transmit audio is up to 4 KHz. I never go wider than 2.9 KHz.

What peaked my interest was their software. I downloaded it a few days ago. To me, it's rather straightforward and intuitive. It has tuning options that are faster than HRD. Definitely gonna take it with me for portable use. My main intention in the shack is to use for medium wave and shortwave listening. High band reception is welcomed.

It's currently on sale for the black version. They have a red model an a woodland camouflage model that look cool.

I'll report back once I break it in....

Apparently, removing a single resistor gives CB goodness. The software has buttons for each band. 11 meters is on such band. In standalone mode, there is plenty of ESSB adjustments. In software mode, there are far greater settings for the hand mic or USB mic. I believe no other radio comes close to transmit audio adjustments.

I had one a few years ago. Am transmit was anemic with all but a 1khz tone then it'd do close to 90+%. Otherwise it was a nice little qrp sdr with knobs. Using the software was night and day better though in terms of options and filters. For the money, I'd still rather have a mars modded flex 1500 (for the ke9ns sw) or an apache labs anan 10e for the legit AM transmit capabilities. I modded the one I had via the desolder a component method. I had the camo painted one and it really looked sharp.

I had a 1500. While I liked it, I didn't like being married to a PC. I still fail to understand why FLEX doesn't have a similar version and price point.

AM isn't important. I also don't require expanded transmit, but it's always nice. The transverter mode does allow transmit to 30 MHz, so that's really all I need. If I understand the manual. I can use the CAT to upload various settings and audio tweaks for use in the standalone mode. Without the CAT programming, the extra goodness isn't available from radio menu.

I have read anecdotal snippets that AM is indeed very nice. Subsequent FW and HW updates may have been added since you last owned.

The amount of praise this rig gets, is far above the negative. The software capabilities are far above any experiences I've had with FLEX, my old ANON and various SDR receivers. Without that experience, this unit would probably blow my mind.

Oh don't get me wrong, it's a sweet rig for sure with a beautiful receiver and very nice software, especially if strong AM transmit isn't important to you. I just can't get the CB'er out of me no matter how many ham licenses I acquire. It's possible they released an update that backed off on the AM peak limiter a bit after I sold mine. I should have kept mine for the pure uniqueness of it (and the camo paint job) but you know how the selling toys to try new toys things goes. Speaking of, loving my new TS-890S but itching to try the latest and greatest Anan 7000dle mk II... it's a sickness.
