EMI...Sounds like alterator whine...

The noise in my receive that is. All along....that's what I thought it was. A few days ago I built a simple DC filter. Something I've had on the back burner. I used an iron core choke and a few capacitors. Low and behold....it didn't work. I disconnected the serpentine belt and IT WAS STILL THERE. So that rules out the alternator. LOL. Low and behold...it's coming through the coax...not the DC power wires. I have the cab grounded to frame....exhaust grounded...doors grounded, hood grounded. Nothing has made a lick of difference for better or worse. When I try the coax loop sniffer, I get nothing but a crackle whenever near the metal. I assume this is the spark plugs.

High pitched whining, only when throttle is above idle, raises pitch with RPM. Receive is silent with coax disconnected. Any ideas?

It's get to be a FORD.. If so it's your fule pump.. Ford make's a filer just for that.. If it's a Ford..

Thanks for the help...but no, it's a 2005 Dodge Ram. I should have said that the first time.

Honestly, I feel lucky considering the horror stories I've heatrd about the new Fords.

First suggestion: ground the hood, bypassing the hinges. It may be the ignition system, or a fan motor, pump motor, the alternator itself...lots of possibilities.

I know you posted that you eliminated the alternator, but is there anything else under the hood that has either an electric motor, solenoid, relay, or any kind of make-break switch contacts that work faster when you give it throttle? If so, you'll probably need to eliminate each one at a time. I have a 2004 Dodge Dakota with the smaller V8, and I have a similar (although extremely mild) case. In my case, its so low I dont even know its there unless there's very little on-air noise.

DTB, mine is the same. Only when the band is silent....which is why I haven't even messed with it much. I'm starting to think it's ignition noise. 8 coils can't be good. When I get a chance (and some extra cash) I'm going to get some copper foil tape and see what I can do.
