EXTERNAL PREAMP

I have a feeling that because of my Palomar 300a's preamp's failure I may need to purchase an external preamp. My antenna (a99) isn't top side. My receive is greatly improved by the preamps on my other amps (mostly used for skip). Unfortunately the preamp on the 300a isn't working. If I can't repair the preamp I will need to purchase an external preamp. If you have owned or used one of these please let me know which one work well. Thanks.

What do you mean when you say your Antron 99 isn't top side?

[QUay a99 is on a non penetrating roof mount. It's a 3x3 square frame that holds 8 sinderblocks weighing 12lbs each. The a99 is on to of three 5 ft masts. It's in the clearing of my backyard. I've been using the 300a with the broken preamp for about 5 days now.before that I was using another amp with a working preamp and thought it definitely helped but I must say I've actually been getting used to no preamp. I still would like an external preamp but I'm not in such a rush anymore. My choice would be . Send this amp in the mail to someone who could repair it or purchase an external preamp. I don't trust this 40 year old amp would fair well in the hands of the usp or the like. There's absolutely no one in my area who can repair it so my opinions are limited. Who knows after another week I may feel I don't even need one. I never thought I'd be able to get along without one and five day's later I'm getting used to it. After a few more days I may drop the external preamp idea altogether. My reason for wanting one was the restricted receive do to my lack of antenna height. The a99 isn't helping either. Although I can't go any highter I can change to a different antenna. In the spring I will be doing just that.
