Why is it, that when I'm trying to work SSB, that it is inundated with AM Dx'ers? Is it my filter? Is there an adjustment that I could make? Do I need an alignment or something?
I know my brain needs an alignment, but what about the radio?:confused1:

You are referring to AM Dx'ers on the SAME frequency right? Or all you talking about getting bleedover from another channel?

If on the same freq., then there's nothing you can do. Your radio is just picking up what is coming in.

If bleedover, I don't think there's much you can do either but get a better radio with a better receive section, like a triple or quadruple conversion ham rig.

Good luck

You didn't say what channel this was happening on. Is it happening below channel 30? Of course, talking SSB can be done on any channel, but there is agreement to use channel 30 and above.

Some more details - please?

I thought the only gentlemans SSB channels were 16, 38, 39, 40...and some of the freeband freqs?

Anyway, AM should be outlawed...

I run an old Cobra 139, which is a 23 channel rig, I just try to find the channel that has the least bleed-over and give it a try.

The Cobra 139 is a nice old rig. Maybe it is time to consider a newer radio and a better radio? Of course the radios from the last ten years have a lot of neat features available, nicer recieve, better modulation and output power. You can get a lot of radio for $100 these days...Just thinking out loud...

I totally agree wth you on that. However, after being unemployed for five months last year and now ending up with a low paying job, it's going to be a while before I can justify spending even $100.00 on a new radio, but it is on the list. I'd like to get a nice Yaesu, Kennwood, Icom, or the like. Specifically an "all band" radio, so that when I get the ticket I'll be good to go.
