FCC Deregulation

Nothing is perfect and I'm sure if it happen it will unleash both good and bad that will need to be ironed out. And I'm sure there will be some that will use it for evil. It will be interesting to see what kind of mess they make of this. LOL

Without getting into politics, I have followed this a little, there are areas where the FCC can make changes that would benefit a lot of radio users.
things that reduce cost, allow more effective operations ect.
However that needs to be balanced with ensuring that services are protected from becoming a free for all especially critical public service and safety frequncys.

Unleashing prosperity through deregulation suggests making it easier for for-profit entities to use spectrum they want. I cannot imagine them turning the ham bands into a free-for-all, especially for profit. Eliminating the ham test would have serious consequences, even if it stayed non-profit via some replacement rule.

I would like to see regular everyday people be able to use TV white space up to 20 watts or so, instead of giving it to ISPs that already had grant money for fiber. I thought it would never happen where I am, but we did finally get fiber from that deal. "Not one person hooked up" is no longer true.

The FCC likes to play favorites, selling to the highest bidder and such. That should change. But I don't see them turning everyone loose on the spectrum. Interference goes both ways, and that's not good for anyone's prosperity or security.

But this isn't about the common person. The mission statement makes that very clear. You and me will lose, big corporations will gain, and in light of the overcrowding they create in doing this, the groundwork for taking away hobby spectrum will be laid. "Less regulation" is bait that everyone wants a bite of. Be careful what you wish for.
