This makes me so sad.
This is the first official nail in the coffin of Amateur radio as we know, and have known it since its inception.
HF frequencies may not be as lucrative as those higher up in the spectrum, but our privileges only exist because they have been fought for and defended whenever threatened.
If amateur radio starts getting mentioned in the news as some sort of subversive form of communication by private "militias", that is going to be the only thing many people ever know about our hobby.
Regardless of whatever side of the political spectrum you more strongly adhere to, our status as Americans HAS to take priority over any divisions we perceive among ourselves.
There are world powers outside our country just salivating right now at the chance to take our place as a world leader, and the divisions will be our gaping wound that finally kills us.
Whatever you believe America should be, and whatever you believe America might become should not be more important to you than America remaining ONE nation.
If anyone thinks that all of the mistrust of "the other side" that is so apparent and rampant on social media platforms comes only from patriotic Americans who believe they are trying to do something positive, all i can say is open your eyes a little wider.
We have held our heads up for so long in this country specifically because of what we've been able to achieve while allowing for opposing points of view instead of trying to squash them.
The entities who wish to take our place do not have to worry about fighting America, they just have to nudge us into the belief that half of us are fighting the other half, and we will ALL win the battle for them.
None of us will stand proud, and we will ALL lament for the days when all we had to worry about was incendiary speeches and loud protests we disagree with.
Our enemies do not live here people.
If you find yourself truly hating another American for their political beliefs on a daily basis, and really considering purposeful internal conflict, know that there is someone outside of this country rooting you on, and hoping that hate takes you over in order to make their job easier.
We are ONE people, and those who would take up arms against their fellow Americans are doing the bidding of powers our country has constantly fought back.
Who will preach peace, and if they do, who will listen?
