Finaly got my CB base station set up

I did order the Cobra 148 GTL ssb and recived it two weeks ago with a 1/2 wave antenna. Not the best antenna but it will do till I get a better one. I perched it on a 40 foot tower I got for nothing from a farmer who used it for his TV till he got dish.
Took a while to figure out the SWRs but ended up with 1.1 on ch1,1.3ish on ch20 and 1.6ish on ch40. Not bad for a noob. I just hope I got it grounded correctly. I have a rod drove down and attached to the tower.

Sounds like a nice set up, especially when the antenna is at a nice height.
I use a maco 5/8 at 35 feet or a top hat at 20 feet, both work like a champ.
If your in southern indiana give me a shout, I hang on am on chnl 13, but can come up on ssb in a minute or two I live 10 miles south of salem indiana...

Roger that, doctor. I live 5 miles south of Elizabeth IN. I had to jack the antenna up that high to get over the hills. I am kind of new to all this and dont know if there is differance in the way you talk on ssb. Its kind of a free for all on AM I understand that part. But on side band is it more like ham? I just dont want to jump up on side band and make a fool of my self if you know what mean.

Have not heard you on, if your on late at night around 11 pm go to chnl 30 the local guys ragchew there, or howl on chnl 13, its been fairly good lately for groundwave and dx

Those 148's are nice rigs...owned one a few years back and traded it off for what I thought at the time was a better radio. Wrong!
