Ca
so i have a few radios in mind,

Kenwood TM-V71A
Kenwood Tm-D700a

I am mainly debating to my self and side by side comparisons between the TM-V71a & the TM-D700a.

I'm thinking since the new V71A is $375.00 at ham city, why not i just spend the similar price and buy a used d700a that has all the bells and whistles?

i wanted an ICOM IC-2720 and a ICOM IC-2800H but they both have issues.

i would love to purchase the kenwood tm-d710a but its a little more then i want to spend at the moment.

my mind is open to any thoughts or reviews on any of these.

I am aware of "issues" with the 2800,.... display,.... cold weather....

but, I think the 2800H doesn't have them http://search.yahoo.com/r/_ylt=A0oG7mx6ailPLBUAKu1XNyoA;_ylu=X3oDMTE1ZHN2Z3NuBHNlYwNzcgRwb3MDMgRjb2xvA2FjMgR2dGlkA01TWTAwMV8xNjI-/SIG=11r94vcn9/EXP=1328143098/**http%3a//www.eham.net/reviews/detail/1408

YMMV

The IC-2820H will do V+V. I've got my finger on the trigger for one right now and the only thing stopping me is the price... I've found them as cheap as $599 delivered to my doorstep, but, it's another $300 to get it on D-Star, so you're flirting with almost a grand.

And yes, I did look at the 880 to get on D-Star, but it's not dual display, so it won't crossband. That's out...

I'm VERY happy with my Yaesu FT-8800R, but I can't do anything to run D-Star simplex on it. I also have an IC-3220H that I really like, but it's not D-star capable either.

There are quite a few guys on the .450 repeater running V71's and they're quite happy with them.

Are you not looking at any of the Yaesu stuff?

Should I ?
I have nothing really thrills me about yaesu.
I like the 8800 but the buttons don't light up, I do a lot of night driving.

I'm not too fond of the ic2820.
The kenwood tm-d700a has caught my eye. But too many bidding wars on eBay to bother looking.
So I may just go to hamcity and pick up the tm-v71a for $365

On the plus side, the 8800's mic buttons will do just about anything that the face buttons will do and they ARE lit, plus you don't have to lean down to the dash to hit them.

good to know. already found two faults on my end: software is about $40.00

+ separation cables are another $60.00

that's: another $100.00 + the radio $430.00 total $530.00 that's hella more then i can spend.... i have $375.00 i want something old or new in that price range...just waiting on the right time...i personally dont like spending buttloads of my money on new stuff just to have it....

i really like the kenwood TM700a (even tho its older it looks tite!)
or the TMv71a. i would have to get used to the mic and menu style of either one, because I'm really good with icom programming.^^ ab v c^^

Software & cable? under $30... Just Google "FTB-8800 software by W5JCK" $15 and it does it all. I paid $12 for a new USB cable & driver on eBay.

There are plenty of clean 8800's out there for $350 or less. If you're quick, you can pick them off of swapshop forums for $300, but they don't last long.

Is there a dedicated so239 on the back for 10m, 6m ? Would be hard to find a quad band mobiel antenna......that works well.

8800's are 2m/70cm on the same connector. You're thinking of the FT-8900 with 6/10m

Congrats on the new rig...

Did you use you call sign as your user name when you registered? That would be the only thing that would hold it up.

Yeah, that 440 remote is 1/3 the distance from you as the repeater itself. You should be able to get into that remote with a $30 70cm Yagi from home, no problem.

You can listen to it on radio reference too at this link --> Riverside County N6HOG 147.450Mhz Repeater Live Scanner Audio Feed

Once that page opens up, just hit the little speaker icon under the word "Listen".
