I've been looking for a really good small handheld monocular etc... for awhile. The most recent 15x32 mini binoculars and 15x32 mini monocular have really sucked. Small yes - but the tiny field of view and low power just made them unsatisfactory.

Saw these a couple of weeks ago on ebay. 30x60 Monocular. Arrived today from China in 2 weeks. $28.99 shipped!

Very sturdy solid feel. Much smaller than it looks in the pics. Is only 4.75" long by 2.5" wide and the widest point. Wrist strap, carry pouch with straps and built in standard 1/4" threaded tripod mount.

VERY nice clean-clear optics. Excellent hand fit and almost concealed.

Very surprised and happy. Can't beat this value. If you know of something better for same money, let me know.

For that price I am guessing high grade plastic lenses and not coated optical glass. I would be surprised if it was different. At least if you drop it you won't feel so bad.

Has glass optics. Not everything coming out of China is dirt cheap.....even if the price is :) "Not dropping or getting wet" applies to all optics and electronics doesn't it? Who would recommend throwing around any telescope or binoculars like it was a tennis ball? I mean really.....

Nobody INTENDS to drop things or get them wet but sometimes shit happens. It's comforting to know that the quality of manufacturing keeps it safe.

I have 3 pair of very high end Binoculars and they have with-stood the torture test for many years. I have dropped them on gravel roads, thrown them into ditch's full of water, put them in the Freezer for hours and even thrown them around the living room floor - they have never failed! Why, because they are the top of the line and the same goes for rifle scopes.

I learned 30 yrs ago - buy good quality and they will be with you for the rest of your life!

My first pair of Zeiss Binoculars cost me $830 and that was in 1982.

Apples and oranges. I want a good monocular for being SMALL and the highest lightweight portability and great usability....being the power and field of view. These 30x60 China jobs are fitting that bill perfectly. I used to have a pair of Orion 12x80 binoculars and they were awesome. But they were also HUGE, weighed about 10 lbs and cost $300. None of which has anything to do with my posted example.

So what you are saying then is that you want to remain stealthy while peeping into the neighbors windows from the bushes across the street.

Hey...if he is happy with his new monocular why you want to burst his bubble...something does not have to cost $900 in order to enjoy it....which would you rather lose?

The older Japanese tasco rifle scopes were pretty good quality optics.

One thing I would mention....the higher power monoculars and binoculars are not suited for being hand held....better suited on a tripod.

I have a pair of nikon 10X50s....that is about as powerful as I like to go handheld.

The old Tasco scopes bagged me a bunch of squirrels. I look at my old ones compared to the Walmart blister pack Tasco scopes and shake my head. I like the old Redfield scopes as well.

A Redfield was what I think Carlos Hathcock used.(y)

I bought a china made rifle scope....I would sight it in.....shoot a few rounds and it would roll back out and have to be sighted in again.....I put in my desk and use it as a spy glass.
