Ok, I know if I put a cap as close to the fuel pump as possible this will eliminate a lot of the noise. Just can't remember what value of cap to use. Refresh my memory please. Thnks to all.

A .01 ceramic disc cap is fine. While you have it apart, I;d put two paralleled from hot wire to frame, from hot wire to ground wire, and ground wire to frame.

That would be six. Two, side by side, for each connection.Picture two wires going to a point. You're bridging those wires, and running each to ground via caps.

Vehicles with electric fuel pumps in gas tank

Although this is not aimed at any specific auto, primarily it is noticed with the Ford and Toyota autos, with the electric fuel pump located inside the gasoline tank. The symptoms are: a noise (generally a whine or whistle) is very noticeable on the radio when the ignition is first turned on, stopping after a few seconds. It returns when the auto is started and continues as long as the engine is running. The cure: install a pair of RF filters, one on each of the leads (positive and negative) coming out of the fuel pump. CAUTION: Be sure to check the vehicle maintenance manual to get the correct wires, and not the fuel level indicator wires. We have found the best available filter for this is the LM-20RF, from MTI, in Signal Hill, California, (800) 772-0796. They manufacture a wide array of filters to solve radio interference problems.

RollingRadios,

Remember the antenna problem with the lincoln.

2. Lincoln Continental, Mark VII, Mark VIII

This is a similar problem to the Taurus, however it only occurs when the trunk lid is fully closed and shut. With the trunk lid open slightly before closing and locking, the antenna will show good SWR readings. Shut the lid and let the electric lock take over and the SWR climbs. Each model has various cures and are handled in an individual case, however, the general solution is to ground the movable arm on the latch, and surrounding latch case or covering.

Dam! finally found the spot of all my interference problems with the truck. I practically pulled my hair out trying to eliminate the noise day after day. To bad its dark outside or I would go fix the bugger right now and kick it in the ass. Thanks guys!

Would one of those snap-together ferrite choke cores (Rat Shack p/n 273-105) on each wire work?
