My Voyage VR-9000 has an issue with 2 of the frequency display numbers not lighting all segments when cold but when warm it works correctly but the same segments are dimmer than the rest. I am thinking of replacing all of the display but I have never done this before and was wondering if I should pay the shop or do it myself. I don't want to destroy my radio although I can solder very well and have all the tools. I haven't seen much online info on this either. Thanks.

Try cleaning the connectors to the display with some de oxit to see if it clears up the issue with the display.

Had a ten tec OMNI in for repairs and it was doing the same thing. cleaned the connectors with some de oxit and display worked fine.

If you have worked inside a radio before, that will help. Working on that portion is different in that it is tedious. Usually, segments of the LED readout goes bad and then replacement is necessary. Not sure that your problem is the LED per se - from what you've described. Sounds like a voltage feed problem. If you have bad/cold solder joints, spraying some canned air on that circuit and watch the LED stop working altogether would be a fair guess that a bad/cold solder joint exists. This can be an easy fix, in that all you would need to do is re-touch all of the connections on that board. If that fails to fix; then it may have other issues and sending it to a shop might be the thing to do - IMO . . .
