i have a newer 148 gtl with the 4pin mic jack in the front i was told that to stop the ssb warble sound on ssb that the 3 pin regulator which is the mb3756 on the older 148. but on the newer ones it is only a 3 leg transistor needs upgrading.???
is there a mod to fix the warble issue.??

I asked this same question only a few weeks ago on the forum.

Some of these new radios do OK; some don't. Seen the same problem you've mentioned even with the older 148's with the MB3756 regulator.

The first cause for this condition - regardless if newer or older - is that the ALC VR adjustment is set too high. Possibly the modulation VR too. Or both. The next cause is a poor voltage/power supply or poor power connections to the radio itself. Many times this is the cause before the regulator should be blamed.

If you want to do the best you can for this radio, then replace the stock voltage regulator with a quality Fairchild or National Semiconductor unit after the other checks have been made first. Install it properly. This isn't a guarantee cure; just the best you can do for it.

The newer 148GTL NON NW/ST is fairly reliable - IMO. The NW/ST is iffy; I've seen them work fine (I have one that does) but many others that are "disappointing junk". You CAN'T turn them up AT ALL. Set it back to the factory settings if you tried to turn it up and then experienced the warble problem! But that has been my experience - yours and others mileage may vary . . .
