I had both, I would go back to  TS-2000 as a base in a heart beat.


Re-read the specs on that 2000


it is actually two radios in one.


You can rx on two different bands at the same time and switch from main to sub to choose which one to talk on.


It don't seem a big deal until you actually have the option and use it a couple of times.


I would talk to the locals on 2 meter repeaters or simplex while listening to HF on the main side of the radio and if I hear something, just move to the main and make a call and not miss out on the locals either.


tons more options that I have not even touched on yet, the 2000 will be your better choice for a base.


leave the 857 for its intended mobile use
