I am 65 and studying for my Tech Test. I purchased a FT2000D and wanted to listen some so I hooked it up last night to a CB antenna.

Problem is that the needle on the meter pegs and there is absolutely no sound at all. I reset all memories to Factory Default Settings, but do not know enough to know where to go from here. Is something blown?

Thanks

Open your RF Gain up and you will see your meter deflect to its normal operating position ;) Also make sure it is not in transmit or that (MOX or VOX is not set to on position.)

Where's your RF gain set at?

I know what you guys are getting at but does this radio work that way? I know the older radios would peg the S-meter if the RF Gain was turned back but some, especially the newer radios, simply move the S-meter towards zero when the RF Gain is turned back.

Turning the RF gain back will peg the meter as my FT 2000-D does.
Done so you can see what signal you need to overcome the lower rf gain you set.

Do use the manual, it is quite a complicated radio for a first step in to amateur radio, i'm a ham for the better part of 37 years and i kept the manual close for months.

Setting it up for personal wishes in receive/transmit will take weeks to do till you are satisfied, but then the radio will work like a champ.
