FTM-350 Question

Hi folks,
May seem like a silly question but does anyone actually use the AM/FM stereo broadcast abilities of the FTM-350 and if so do you have an opinion on its performance? Reason for asking is I need to put a rig in my 1970 Land Rover and have very limited dash real estate. I was considering the 350 to "kill two birds with one stone". If however the 350 is a poor performer for broadcast radio, I'm leaning toward a dedicated broadcast radio plus an FT-8800.

Any experience appreciated!
Thx

JO

Since no one has responded to your question, let me give you some feedback. I primarily use my FTM-350 for the Ham Bands, however, I do have one FM station programmed in that I stumble upon every once in a while.

The audio is clear and sounds good - you just cannot compare it to a full fledged car stereo system.

Now, if you're not an audiophile - I think this setup may work for you. As a side note - I have two Yaesu speakers hooked-up to my FTM-350, so I get stereo sound.

Hope this helps!

I've used it for AM/FM. It works fine, although the sound quality can't compare to a dedicated car stereo.

That should actually be fine for my purposes - bear in mind it's a 45 year old Land Rover, not a Lexus so virtually nothing will sound "good" in it. (and an audiophile I am NOT. I'm just looking to occasionally catch some music and news. Not having to buy a dedicated car stereo actually makes the 350's price much more appealing after my initial sticker shock.

Thanks folks!

JO

The FTM-350 also has a line-in, so your iPod will work, too. Just make sure you wire up some decent external speakers and you'll be in business.

Non Yaesu Bluetooth headsets for BU-1

I know I saw a list of compatible bluetooth headsets on here over a year ago, but did a search and could not find it now...either way it might be time for an update...What headsets have you been able to pair up with the Yaesu BU-1 card?

From what I remember others posting, pretty much anything works. The problem with compiling a list is that the headset models change faster than the radio model. Basically, you shouldn't really have any problems pairing anything to the radio.

What about vehicle in-dash radios with bluetooth? Can the Yaesu pair with your Alpine CD player? Can you hear the Yaesu through your stereo speakers?

The only bluetooth I've seen in a car was specifically for the cell phone. I don't have a stereo that has bluetooth enabled for the speakers to be used with other transmitters, so I can't test that out. I have my doubts that it will work, though. The FTM-350 is setup to pair with speaker-mic headsets.
