so i have the opportunity to get a galaxy 800 amp for 100$ he said it does 400 watts. i havent seen many of these and really dont know much about them. its 2, 17JG6 driving 4, 24LQ6 . any info would be appreciated as i have not pulled the trigger on it yet.

The original Galaxy 800 was designed around 8975 tubes that made more output than this later version. With four 24LQ6 tubes in the final stage, 400 watts output is not too shabby as long as it's not being over driven to get it there. All of these tubes are hard to find and expensive today. If you want a CB base linear, 25 cents per watt is pretty hard to beat anywhere. The main thing to consider is that when the time comes to replace the tubes, it may not be economical to repair.

its a working amp. i know the guy he said the tubes are 70% i will test them with my tester
70% is ok but also time to start saving for a new set imo.
I found 24je6c/24lq6 nos bulk tubes $20 each + the ride, not a bad price, mine are $34 lol. Pm me for the link as I dont like posting my tube sources public. Tubes are getting too hard to find.

I am looking for the proper rocker switch for this amp. The standby and operation switch. Where can I find this part?

Every production run of that amplifier was different, seemed like. They built it with whatever type tube they could score cheap in quantity. Decades later, none of those tubes are cheap. Sounds like an even chance that yours was modified for the tubes it has in it. The tubes with the higher filament voltages go cheap because there wasn't any demand for them. Not until all the 6 and 12 Volt types began to dry up. The high price they bring creates the incentive to hack the amplifier's filament circuit to take the cheaper types.

As has been said above, both those tubes are becoming hard to find and are very expensive. They will both likely become unobtanium in the next few years. If you do buy the amp I would also buy replacement tubes now, while you can still find them. Don't be surprised if the replacements cost more than what you paid for the amp !

I noticed NOTHING. Whoops.

I know this post is old but just wondering if you ever got the amp? I own one and I love it with fresh tubes you should see around 1000 pep . There is a tube that is cheaper that you can buy for it ALOT CHEAPER

Probably not so relevant as it used to be, but the so-called "8975" is a russky type with the greek letter "pi" in the type number.

Substituting the latin letter "P" in its place makes the type number "6P45". This is a pretty rugged tube for its size. The San Diego folks pulled the "8975" number out of their behinds and rubber-stamped it onto this russky TV sweep tube.

They could be found on fleabay before Vlad the inhaler trashed Ukraine. Haven't looked for them for a while.
