IM not very familure with the 959 (I believe those are the numbers ? it's the one with the freq counter on it / cb radio) friend of mine was telling me that he was using the radio as a base and all of a sudden he would key down and the freq counter would drop down in frequancies ???? let me try and explain better .....lets say he was on 26.985 ...he says the radio is receiving without a problem but when he goes to key the radio up and transmit ,the radio numbers go from 26.985 to say 14.985 and of course ,no transmit ......unkey the mic and everything appears to go back to normal in the receiving mode ? ......anybody have any ideas what's going on with this radio ? thanks Switch Kit

Truck drivers around here call that "Galaxy Syndrome". First place to check is the soldering quality on the main circuit board. Particularly the leads on power components bolted to the side rails, lapped over the outer edge of the main board.

Are you certain that his power supply isn't the culprit? Sounds possible.

It's NOT one of those snap-of-the-finger "They all do that" kind of problem. The 40-channel Galaxy radios seem to have a lot less trouble with soldering quality than the "10-meter" bandit models.

Thanks Nomad ,he is an older gentleman ,and he uses batteries (Mobile Home) for power in the situation that he's in now .....IM always telling him to make sure his batteries are up to par .....sometimes when somebody doesn't know that much about radios and there trying to tell you the problem over the radio or telephone , it can sometimes seem worse then it really is (one can only hope) .....thanks for the advise and I will take a look see out his radio next time I see him. sorry for the late come back here ...but you were so right Mr Nomad ..just turned out that he didn't have enough power going to the radio at the time ....this is one of his favorite radios so when it happened he had taken it right out of line because he didn't want to further hurt the radio if that would have been the case. I asked him one day if his batteries were fully charged and he said yes ....I told him to put his 959 in line and boy was he relieved to see that it was working like a champ !! (-: .....he said he would be more careful in the future about his power situation . thanks again S-K
