Hi Gang,
I thought I was performing a quick freq alignment of a 959b but not so fast. The alignment instructions have you set it on channel 1. The issue is that if I align the SSB TX on 1 it is 500 HZ off on 40 or the same if I align on 40. If I align on 19 it is about 250 HZ off on 1 and 40. Ant thoughts about why the alignment would not have a linear outcome? AM seems to be only about a 25 HZ difference.

Thanks as always!!!

This difference is caused by frequency error in the 10.240 MHz crystal.

They do not provide an adjustment for that one. This crystal sets the frequency step between channels. Some engineer at RCI decided that this error is too small to bother with a calibration trimmer.

And that's the error you're seeing. All other frequency adjustments in this radio will be equally wrong on each channel. Only the 10.240 crystal will do this.
