With all the newer high powered radios with built in amps now a days... would the average person really be able to tell the difference from a newer radio with a built in amp than a well tuned Galaxy 99 with external amp (300-400 range)?

Would the RX and TX be that much difference than the newer higher priced radios? ? I realize one can take all the fancy instruments to show newer is better but.... would the average CB Joe really see a difference? Thanks

gal99v is not a great radio on ssb...the are rough sounding at its best...the 88 is better...if i had to decide would go with a new dx or older 2960 and tx star 350 400 or 500...would be great on ssb/am both...73 de JW

I guess I should have said if AM was the only consideration.
Thanks

It might be a typo, but, if you ran a TS350 with an RCI 2960 you would smell smoke real quick like. That said that's one rare RCI right there, an old 2960. (the 2960 had dual 2290 finals just like the 2970)

As far as the post, on AM a Galaxy 99 is probably right there with all the rest. You will only sound as good as the tech was that tuned it. Any radio for that matter. On SSB the 99 & 88 will get blown away.
