Hi Everyone,
I have a 99v2 on the bench that the owner installed a PowerMax regulator in. I cannot figure out if he did anything else to it. Upon powering it up the radio was in xmit mode with no mic plugged in. It is in xmit mode in all modes (AM, SSB). I did a very thorough visual inspection and I cannot find anything obvious. I do see that the transmit pin on the mic jack seems to hit a transistor before it leaves the daughter board to the main board.

Any thoughts on this one?

Thanks as always!!!

You've probably already thought it but maybe a stray solder blob or pin from his work. On the foil side.

The mic plug pcb, I've personal found issues there with blobs.

Don't you just love fixing someone's mishaps

I did look that over and it appears that he did not do any work on the mic plug. I actually don't mind working on a radio that has been messed with but I just wish that they told the truth. This owner told me that he had no knowledge of the radio. Just that he picked it up cheap and asked me to look at it for him. There is NO way that he did not plug it in and know that it is in xmit mode AND he is known for loving that Palomar Max Mod regulator. I don't mind that he upgraded the regulator but tell me that. Also, if he would tell me what he was doing when the radio went into full time xmit that would help me troubleshoot easier. No worries though. He's a good guy and I guess he is possibly embarrassed that the radio is messed up. I'll do my best to help him out.

Thx for your reply 828!!!!

OK, here is an update on this radio, It now functions correctly but there are other issues that I'll start another thread over. I did replace one cap (C512). I'm not sure that it was the cause of the radio being stuck in transmit but the cap was bad. I also reflowed a bunch of the board as there we so many solder issues that I could not let it go. Lastly, someone tried to do the clarifier mod and they shorted D68 and JP275. I reversed the clarifier mod.

As an FYI on documentation. I could not find a service manual for this radio but I did find that the info for the Galaxy DX 98VHP we mostly the same. The 98 has a built-in amp so there are some differences in the alignment.

Now onto the next 99v2 thread where I can ask about the transmit power issues.....
