Just was wondering why IM experiancing some weird goings on here with this kit and radio ? ...followed directions to the tee (or so I thought) ...freq counter reads on the money when flipping the switch ? ...(this one is 40 below channel 1 ) ....I put it on the antenna and (lets say IM on channel 19 ) ....I flip the switch and the freq counter reads 26.745 but IM still receiving and transmitting on 27.185 channel 19 ?? ...the kit does say to go back and slightly tweak the receive coils ,I thought I did but I didn't see or hear any changes so I made sure everything went back to normal so IM pretty much right back where I started ......any help or clues here on this one ? thanks Switch Kit

Hi Switch Kit,
Installed an "ESS-Minus" kit, eh?

A trace has to be cut leading both to the receiver mixer and to the transmitter mixer. Sounds like you only cut the trace to the transmitter side, but not to the receiver. Because different production versions of the 25LTD have slightly different circuit-board layouts, it's easy to cut the wrong trace.

If you are hopelessly in love with this radio, send it to a reputable tech. You will likely find that the receiver's rejection has been compromised. I am not a fan of this channel kit, because of the way the receiver gets hacked. By the time you spend enough to make it (sorta) work, you could have bought a used radio that came with channels.

Other AM-only radios like the Cobra 29GTL/LTD/etc and the Uniden PC-76/78 will perform a lot better with the Expo "A" kit that fits those models. The Cobra 25 was considered "NOT convertible" until the "S" kits came out. The parts of the receiver that get bypassed to get the kit to work are a compromise that I don't recommend.

Yes, the kit will do what it says once it's installed correctly, but the drawbacks outweigh the advantages in my opinion.

interesting as usual Nomad .....hmmm ? .....just like to fiddle ...did the kit in the PC-122 and it worked very nicely if I say so myself (-: ......the 25s are my radio of choice in my car ....really not much SSB these days so the 25s pretty much give me what I need ,just thought it would be kind of cool to have 40 below for shoot'in some AM skip .....I had did a S- on a 25 GTL and it worked great ....but it just wasn't the same on the LTD Classic model (1995) looked the same ,but like you said ,not the same )-: I believe what your saying here about the draw backs ,I had taken it out and left well enough alone. But I still have fun doing my best to get things right (ballpark anyway) ...for me ,it has to be that way. I have none of the fancy equipment that it takes for the real McCoy stuff . thanks .........tell me something Nomad ? ....that AM board has been around for a long time wouldn't you say ? .....I can see there has been a few changes here and there over the years but yet that perticular board pretty much still looks the same some 25 years later ? I'd guess to say maybe one the best AM only CB radio boards ever made ? Hmmm
